About Us

A RICH HISTORY OF BEING A CENTRE OF BUSINESS FOR THE NIAGARA COMMUNITY.

In the heart of the revitalized St. Catharines downtown core, the St. Catharines Club is nestled amongst the thriving business community. New industry, revitalization of existing industry and a commitment to progress, this is the epicentre of business in the Niagara Region.

Housed in one of Niagara’s most distinguished historic buildings, the Club is the place where business leaders meet and the future economic change-makers shake hands and settle into the refined environment enjoyed as a social club for more than a century.

The St. Catharines Club has evolved to become the destination for Niagara’s business leaders, a relaxed environment to discuss the arts, entertainment, industry, culture and enjoy the libations and culinary experience crafted daily by the hospitality team.

The Club has been coined, “The Place to Be”, and it certainly is! Beyond the obvious benefits it brings to doing business in Niagara, it is a place to retreat from the everyday grind, a home away from home and a place to enjoy the company of your best friends, clients and family. I cannot put a sum on the amount of value the Club has brought to my business or my personal life, but I can say it would be much different without it.

OUR HISTORY

Founded in 1878, The St. Catharines Club was created for the purpose of promoting fellowship amongst the founding gentlemen and the others who may subsequently join them.

The Club was formally incorporated eight years following, detailed by a founding document which lists a special act of the Legislature of the Province of Ontario and its Chartered date is March 25th, 1886.

It has continuously existed from the date of its founding until today. In the beginning the Club operated in the private homes of the members, with no official premises. The first location of the club was 47 Ontario Street.

Since 1927 the Club has occupied its present premises at 77 Ontario Street, the history within the walls tells a remarkable tale of the shaping of Niagara industry. The building where it is housed today is a Georgian House built prior to 1874 and is historically known as the Haynes Residence.

The Club is an important landmark in the heritage of Shipman’s Corners, which is what is now titled the City of St. Catharines.
